Nevada Fall Mist

I am excited that Nevada Fall Mist is also included in Yosemite Renaissance XXIX! The opening is February 28, 2014 at Yosemite Museum Gallery in Yosemite National Park. The show runs from March 1 through May 11, 2014 and travels to other galleries after that.

Honorable Mention, Yosemite Renaissance XXIX

The hike up to the falls was so exciting! We visited Yosemite in May of 2012 when the water was really pounding over the falls. As we neared the top of the trail, this was the last shot I was able to get before we got wet. Just around the corner it was a full mist and the granite stairs were slippery. Just an amazing hike!

To achieve the faint line of trees at the top of the quilt and the shadow beneath the bright green trees on the left, I used Derwent Inktense pencils on silk organza layered on white batting and then finished it with two layers of silk gauze before adding the raw edge applique tree fabrics and mountain wall on top. Vertical quilt lines seemed natural to me after 5 days of living with my fear of heights.

Here’s some detail:

  1. Jerilyn,
I just sort of learned how to get on facebook and what a wonderful find to see your quilts. I’m so proud to have such a truly talented niece!
